Proper balance is crucial for handheld camera gimbals as they can handle some of balance weight but it will result in micro shaking and overheating the stabilisers motors.
So first of all I have full video tutorial that you can watch and follow steps on YOUTUBE. To begin you have to know what camera, lens , and if so even focal length of the lens you will use on your camera setup .
first screw on quick release plate on your setup … my setup is : sony a6500 with sigma MC-11 and Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 all in smallrig cage . Total weight is 1,8kg.
slide it in to quick release and lock it .
now my recommendation is to have your camera as close as possible to the tilt motor . Simply undo the screw under rail and slide it to the right .
now get your hands off the setup to see how bad is the balance … as you see terrible !
I always start with roll axis balance – undo the screw on top of the motor and slide rail until you find balance afterwards tight screw .
next step of mine is tilt axis balance… here is one more step you have to point lens to the ceiling or to the floor if you have enough clearance .And undo the screw and slide rail until you find the balance .
second last thing to setup is camera on quick release mechanism … point lens forward and unlock plate slide forward or backward until you find balance ….afterwards lock it on place.
at this point is all looking good except pan axis … for pan axis adjustment you have to tilt whole gimbal at least 15 degrees to the side and unlock the screw slide rail until perfect balance .
This was last step to achieve perfect balance of DJI ronin S now you can run Ronin app and check balance , all should be perfect and ready for shot!
