External Power For Camera

as you expanding your camera rig you going to need more power. best option is to get one giant battery to power all devices on your rig. there is plenty products on market such as Vmount and battery unfortunately it is it gone cost you a fair amount of the money.

my rig is small I need to sometimes power externally monitor or led light so I decided to build my own cheap usb/DC barrel power bank from charger for NP-F battery.

when you order charger for NP-F battery from china it comes with battery and its dirty cheap ! charger looking like this … cheap universal body with power fork on back.

on the back of the charger under sticker are two screws holding it intact . go ahed and take apart charger you need to empty it and create space for new wires, usb connector and DC barrel connector and also for voltage regulator.

this is voltage regulator that can be set to USB voltage of 5.2V. this one is from “arduino” for part list visit end of the post or see tutorial video here…

I got USB port from old PC Card , and barrel connector I had in toolbox for some time now . I made holes for connectors and also I glued two 1/4″nuts on back as mounting option .

bit of soldering and double sided tape will make sure that regulator stay securely inside. the usb is connected via regulator and dc barrel has power straight from NP-F battery .

once all connected you need to set usb voltage to max 5.2V so connect battery and multimeter regulator out of the box will show over 7V so turn knob on top of small blue box until voltage drops to 5.2V which is good for USB devices.
