Let me help you to get rid off EGR gasses going into your cylinders …
If your EGR failed , it is stuck or just simply not working and your car is getting EML light on dash or you just want to prevent similar issues in the future…? It is possible to blank it and it not require any ECU modifications or chip . (Im not sure about emissions ..please check requirements in your country). For blanking plate : you can make one as you will have all in pieces (just copy steel gasket) or you can get detailed measurements from me for just $2 and prepare for the job before you even start !
My car is Peugeot 206 1.4 HDi 8valves with electronic EGR and electronic shutoff valve (aka. throttle body) the Principe is the same and blanking plate will fit even engines with vacuum EGR and ford TDCI engines… I have full video tutorial on blanking EGR (Peugeot 206 1.4hdi ) HERE!
First of all the Principe …I did research and as good as Peugeot , Citroen forums and community are there is no straight forward tutorial on how to do it and how EGR actually works on those engines. (when you driving) once you release gas pedal the EGR valve (electronic or vacuum operated) opens and lets exhaust gasses flow into the intake manifold in the same time “shut off valve” aka throttle body (electronic or vacuum operated) shuts and helps engine to suck out exhaust gasses only… and when you press gas pedal it opens “shut off valve” and closes EGR valve to get fresh air in to the engine …as good and genius it sounds it will cause problems over time and you will loose power or it will cause higher fuel consumption .
Let me clarify something before you start … if you want to blank EGR on 1.4 HDi you will have to remove valve from “shut off valve” as well ! If you just shut off EGR valve and you going to drive ….you let go gas pedal and the blocked EGR and shut “shut off valve” creates massive vacuum in intake manifold – and MAP (manifold absolute pressure sensor) will pick that up and you will probably end up with EML on dash and also some rough driving and unnecessary pressure changes in intake manifold . But don’t worry it is easy to do and it won’t affect stuff!
Lets start with EGR valve on 1.4 HDi is located just behind and bellow fuel filter. As all of us know the fuel system can be tricky on these engines …so we will not touch fuel filter or lines – some people remove fuel filters but it is unnecessary and you can do it with fuel filter on. things to uninstall : engine cover, battery, air filter (entire box), things to unplug: battery,MAF (mass air flow sensor),EGR valve. EGR valve is held on engine head by two M6 screws with head for 8mm socket both are easily accessible with 1/4″ ratchet and socket… please note do not remove clamp from steel pipe going in to intake manifold …you can spin entire EGR unit on that pipe without removing that clamp .
Make sure you remove steel gasket from between EGR and engine head and remember position of it as that gasket and blanking plate are asymmetric . Now you can install blanking plate … you can make one as you have all in pieces or get detailed measurements from me for just $2… just apply bit of heatproof silicone and slip it in between EGR and engine block. You can follow video tutorial HERE also you can see correct orientation of the plate in there.
Removing “Shut Off Valve” this is located on top of the engine light before turbo hose entering intake manifold . Unit is held by 3 screws and connected by wires (if electronic) or vacuum hose (if vacuum operated).
Inside is valve held on its shaft by 2 screws …I have removed two screws and valve entirely as connector to my electronically operated shut off valve has to be connected… so basically it still moves shaft but nothing is restricting airflow! For engines with vacuum operated shut off valve : not sure what happens if you disconnect vacuum pipe – it may shut or open valve you have to check …or just remove valve from inside as I did. See pictures bellow:
valve removed from body body without valve
Now you made it to the end … I appreciate your support and I hope that my tutorial sorted issues with your engine! After this modification you will have constant trouble codes about EGR performance for obvious reasons … but nothing to worry about -these will not bring EML light on ! Your engine will be happier as it can breath much better and cleaner air . I will appreciate if you stick around and check my other tutorials that you may find useful or if you think I saved your time and money and want to buy my a coffee please support me here:
